My Recent Work History

Staff Photojournalist for The Kent Stater. I have been a staff photojournalist from October 2023 to current – paid from the beginning. In this role I have taken on story assignments varying from general university events and protests, to sporting events – which is my focus. 

Athletic Event Staffer/Intern for the Ravenna School District. In my role, from August 2015 to present, I have served as a scoreboard operator, public address announcer, scorekeeper, statistician, recap writer, ticket taker, tournament director, meet director, event director, site manager. I oversaw and completed their conversion from older style cash registers to a Square Point of Sale System. I led the setup of their website and social media platforms for the boosters and the department. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, I launched the livestreaming system for sporting events, which was taken over by the Technology department to include all events.

Athletic Communications Assistant at Kent State University. In my role there, from August 2022 to current, I served as a spotter for Field Hockey and Football, scoreboard operator for Soccer and Women’s Lacrosse and digital scorekeeper for Wrestling.

Production Assistant for Kent State Teleproductions. In my role there, from November 2022 to current, served as a PA on an active shooter threat training video, camera operator and shader for ESPN+, Livestream and Videoboard productions. 

I have served as a Peer Success Mentor to first-year college students via the Flashes 101 course and through Student Success Services. My role included facilitating classes, connecting students to resources and opportunities beyond the classroom and campus and supporting students through their struggles.

My Skills

Tech-Savvy

I have lived almost 40 years on Earth, and I have spent all but 3 not in front of a computer. I have lived with Windows since 2.0 and worked in DOS. I know my way around technology. I adapt and learn new technology expediently. 

Innovative

I am a forward thinker. I am prone to solve problems via improvisation, e.g. MacGyver. I love getting my hands dirty working on projects that get the brain going and push my department and team forward.

Future-driven

I prioritize development of younger professionals. As I am closer to retirement, (and need novelty) I firmly believe that developing the next generation of professionals is my place. Inspire and be inspired. 

Knowledgable

I have worked in various roles in athletics, so my exposure to sports is broad. I am a USATF track & field official (apprentice expired – will renew when I find a permanent home). I have also managed wrestling tournaments and track meets.

My Complete Work History

Started in Feb. 1999 at Geauga Lake, worked there until Oct. 2004 through three name changes (Geauga Lake, Six Flags Ohio, Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, Geauga Lake) and two ownership changes (Premier Parks/Six Flags, Cedar Fair). Worked about everywhere you can in a theme park. 

Spent one summer (May to Aug. 2005) working at a Dairy Queen.

Interned one summer (June & July 2002) at my high school doing basic remedial technology work.

Worked at Media & Academic Computing at Youngstown State from Nov. 2003 to May 2005. Was their premier laptop cart setup person for classrooms, back in the days of TV/VCR carts and overhead projectors.

Worked at YSU Parking Services from Sep. 2005 to Nov. 2008. Was placed as the primary gatekeeper for Friday Night High School football games at their major parking lot. Specifically was requested for Friday nights in the fall when I left to go full time at the YSU Performing Arts Series.

Worked at the YSU Performing Arts Series from Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2010, served as an intern for the Summer Festival of the Arts from 2006 to 2010 and theatre box office staff and house manager.

Served as stage manager, graphic designer and web designer for Opera Western Reserve from their 2005 season to their 2010 season. 

Worked on various theatre productions for Youngstown State Theatre in varying capacities from 2003 to 2009. While with YSU Theatre, I worked as a lighting technician, sound technician and designer, scenic construction crew, costume and makeup tech and acting. I also served as production stage manager, stage manager and assistant stage manager on a dozen productions.

Worked for PNC Bank as a Help Desk Phone Technician from Jan. 2011 to Feb. 2012.

Worked for Family & Community Services, City of Ravenna and Ravenna School District as a computer repair field technician from Sept. 2012 to Feb. 2016.
